“ Now we will see what the Magic fans are made of.” Well I can say what Magic fans are made of is: having already been through the drafting of Shaq in 1992, then followed by Hardaway the year after, and then to watch Shaq walk out the door. Hardaway never panned out, and actually couldn’t handle the pressure. He was out. Then we waited patiently while our “stars” were Horace Grant and Darrell Armstrong. We patiently waited, and then drafted a high school kid from Atlanta, GA named Dwight Howard. Magic fans are all about supporting the team and it’s players. We gave all our love to Dwight Howard, even though he was raw and did not have a jumpshot to save his life. His free throws got worse, yet he did develop some upper body strength and a hook shot of sorts. Finally, after all the patience of turning Dwight from an only defensive minded player into an offensive rebounding and scoring threat, the Magic play the Lakers in the NBA Finals. In the same similar fashion as when Shaq took the Magic to play in the NBA Finals against Houston in 1995, we were quickly demolished. Dwight Howard learning to shoot a free throw might have helped, but that’s debatable. Once again, we will be patient. So to say ”Now we will see what the Magic fans are made of.” is a joke. We’ve handled disappointment and kept on supporting our team. Andrew Nicholson looks promising, and in fact he was drafted as a possible answer to fill the known-to-be-happening Dwight Howard departure. Unlike Los Angeles, we draft well, and persevere. Personally, I’ll be happy when Dwight Howard shows up with his new back problems, and at the end of the season departs for Dallas or Brooklyn. Oh and most likely without your precious Lakers having won another ring. What we, the Magic fans, are all about is continuing on and supporting our team; even without whiney soap opera centers who couldn’t throw a free throw into a 50ft rim, and who neither could win a ring until they left to play with other soap opera players. Enjoy your paper championships Lakers.
